What services does RSTS provide?
RSTS provide celled (secure) and non-celled (non-secure) transport services to and from any location in the UK for both adults with mental health difficulties, challenging behaviour, complex needs, and other areas of care. We specialise in transporting people with mental health and learning difficulties either informal or detained under the Mental Health Act 2017.
What qualifications does RSTS have?
RSTS is CQC registered organisation which means we are qualified to provide secure transport services that meet the standards of quality and safety set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). We have extensive experience of providing celled (secure) and non-celled (non-secure) transportation services to patients across different sectors including the NHS and private healthcare organisations.
What types of transfers do you offer?
We cover a wide range of transport services which include Acute and PICU transfers, CAMHS transfers and forensic transfers, while also offering transport to non-emergency patients. All our transfer services are carried out in accordance with applicable legislation and CQC regulations for patient safety.

Do you have specialist staff?
Yes. Our staff specialise in providing safe and secure transport for patients with various needs. They are also trained to handle complex situations with respect, empathy, and compassion. All our staff receive comprehensive training in verbal and non-verbal communication skills, relationship building, anger management, de-escalation of difficult situations, conflict management, health and safety and physical intervention. Our service is led by our Clinical Director who is a GMC Registered Consultant Psychiatrist and Approved Clinician with extensive experience in inpatient, forensic, CAMHS and strategic services.
Is there a minimum level of training required for your staff?
Yes, all our staff have achieved the appropriate levels of mandatory and statutory training to ensure the highest levels of safety and dignity for patients.
Do all your staff have enhanced DBS checking?
Yes, all of our staff members undergo enhanced DBS checks, and we also continuously monitor them.
How do you ensure patient safety during transport?
Our team is highly trained on how to take the utmost care when transporting patients. We use stringent safety protocols that include conducting risk assessments before each journey as well as providing additional support from medical professionals if needed. Our celled vehicles are equipped with first aid equipment, defibrillator, airway management equipment, ligature knife and PPE. They also have GPS trackers installed, so that the location of the vehicle can be tracked in real time.
What type of professionals do you provide for patient escort services?
We provide Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMNs) and Ambulance Care Assistants (ACAs) to ensure the safety and welfare of patients during transportation. All our drivers are trained as ACAs to enable us to provide a safe environment for patients during their journey.
Is restraint used when transferring patients?
Where possible, we strive to persuade patients to relocate without force or restraint and will use alternative methods such as engaging with them on their preferred topics or providing comfort items where appropriate. If necessary, however, physical restraints may be used in order to ensure the safety of both staff and patients alike.
What safety features are included in your patient transport vehicles?
Our specialist vehicles are designed with several safety features to ensure the safe and comfortable transportation of patients. Our celled vehicles are equipped with first aid equipment, defibrillator, airway management equipment, ligature knife and PPE. They also have GPS trackers installed, so that the location of the vehicle can be tracked in real time. Non-celled vehicles are equipped with a two-way intercom system allowing safe communication between the driver and passengers. There is also a first aid kit and ligature knife on board for added peace of mind.
How many staff members typically crew each vehicle?
We typically staff each vehicle with two trained staff members but the number of accompanying staff can be increased if necessary
Is there access to medical equipment within the vehicles?
Yes, our patient transport vehicles are equipped with emergency medical equipment needed for safe and comfortable transport of patients. Our celled vehicles are equipped with first aid equipment, defibrillator, airway management equipment, ligature knife and PPE. Non-celled vehicles are equipped with a first aid kit and ligature knife on board for added peace of mind.
What types of vehicles do you provide?
Our fleet consists of two types of customised vehicles, celled (secure) and non-celled (non-secure). We have designed our vehicles this way to guarantee that the least restrictive option is available when needed. All our vehicles are specifically designed to support the safe and comfortable transportation of patients, including a fixed reinforced barrier between the driver and passenger compartment, intercom, CCTV with internal monitors in the driver cab, and internal locking.
Is your service available 24/7?
Yes. We are available anytime, day or night, however, where possible we highly recommend daytime transfers to ensure optimal safety and comfort for our patients.
